Sunrise shells are from a type of small scallop native to the Hawaiian Islands. They are extremely rare as they are endemic to Hawaii and were very sacred to the ancient Hawaiian people. Each shell manages to make its way hundreds of feet up from the ocean floor through the reef and big surf to find itself on a beautiful beach in Hawaii.
