What To Do In Maui When It Rains

What To Do In Maui When It Rains

Posted by Shelby Ohashi-Sides on

April showers bring May flowers but what do you do in the meantime? Whether you are on a Maui vacation getaway or a resident mermaid, we are sure being cooped up from the springtime rain has you craving a little adventure. Thankfully there is more to Maui than lounging in the Hawaiian sun and here are a few of our favorites!

Treat Yourself
There is nothing more relaxing than the pitter-patter of rain on the roof, except for maybe a day at the spa. There are a number of highly rated local spas dotted across the island and some even utilize traditional Hawaiian practices for those looking to get the full cultural experience. Simply make your way up to Upcountry Maui  and experience Hawaiian healing at Ho’omana Spa Maui as the calming sound of rainfall soothes your mind, body, and soul.

Get Wet
This almost goes without saying but when in Hawaii, you shouldn’t let the rain stop you. Some of our best memories were made in the rain and we hope that a little drizzle doesn’t discourage you from creating a precious flashback. So what are you waiting for? Take a romantic sunset stroll along the shore and maybe go for a dip, you are already wet right? You could even grab the boogie board you were planning for the ocean waves and take it up to the nearest park. With all the rain Maui has been experiencing lately, grassy hills make for natural slip-n-slide and a whole lot of fun!

Rainbow Hunting
And for those of you are looking to stay dry while still enjoying your time here, rainbow hunting is always a fun way to let Hawaii happen. The island chain isn’t nicknamed “The Rainbow State” for nothing and Maui is notorious for vibrant duos. So hop into your car and go for a drive, the one who spots a double rainbow wins! Not only will you discover a little of Maui but you also get to glimpse at the behind the scenes of how the Valley Isle gets so lush. And if you find yourself on the slopes of Haleakala, warm up with a cup of lavender coffee at the Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm and continue the rainbow search from the view of the many gazebos scattered across the property!

Shopping
As an age-old pastime and with unique boutique towns all over the island, it is almost a crime to spend anytime on Maui without doing a little shopping. From the mountain to the sea, there are local businesses carrying a Hawaii treasure made with you in mind. Our favorite just happens to be the seafoam blue building at the start of North Shore Paia Town but maybe we are just a little biased.

Here at Wings Hawaii, we cherish just about everything about living in Hawaii and we work to bring you pieces of paradise that celebrate our island home. So if you are wandering the beach town of Paia, stop by. And if you are still looking for things to do on Maui when it rains, make sure to add the Haiku Ho’olaulea on April 14th to your itinerary. Rain or shine, this annual event will go on and we sure will be there!
