Get A Taste Of Maui Gold

Posted by Shelby Ohashi-Sides on

If you happen to chance upon anyone who remembers when Maui Pineapple Company was in its hay day, you are sure to hear of sneaky missions for island gold. Wings Hawaii’s roots might not run that far back but we sure enjoy hearing the stories, especially since our studio calls the old Pauwela Cannery home.

Nestled on the gentle slopes of Haleakala, just above Paia Town lies the island of Maui’s tastiest tour. Deeply rooted in Hawaii’s agricultural history, Maui Pineapple Co. gives visitors and locals alike the chance to discover the famous “Maui Gold”. Specially bred over time for the sweetest bite, these hybrid variety pineapples are smaller than what you might be used to seeing in a grocery store but they pack quite the punch.

Resting in the heart of the island’s own pineapple district, this guided tour gives you the unique opportunity to get up close and personal. From planting to processing, Maui Pineapple Tours brings a whole new take to the farm to table experience! And with several options available, you are sure to find something of your taste.

The standard option is available every day of the week and includes a 90-minute tour of the fields and the operations facility. This tour does not include the distillery but during the week (Monday through Friday) you can tack on an additional 30-minute tour that comes with 3 tastings along with 10% off in the distillery store and a complimentary shot glass. And if you want a little savory to go with the pineapple sweetness, add an ono-licious lunch at Haliimaile General Store! The lunch will follow the standard tour and you will have the choice of one of the chef crafted entrees. And if you just can’t choose, there is a Do Everything option to do well...everything!

Wandering this Haliimaile farm does require the ability to handle the bumpy tour ride in the fields along with being able to walk on uneven terrain. You are sure to discover some good ol’ fashion family fun fit for almost any mermaid, just keep in mind that children must be at least 5 years old to participate and distillery visitors have to be 21+ for tastings. And if you happened to find yourself caught in one of the North Shore showers, there are still a number of things for you to do when it rains.

Regardless, there are Maui memories to be created here and we would love to hear about it!
